A Sustainable 6DAYS
At everyl evel—from the FIM to the National Federation Organiser and Local Clubs—there is a shared commitment to uphold the highest environmental standards.
All activities are conducted in full compliance with local regulations, the FIM Environmental Code, and the four principles of Sport for Nature. Environmental protection is not optional: all FIM-sanctioned events include mandatory rules and penalties for non-compliance.
To responsibly manage high-impact events like 6DAYS® 100th Edition 2026 Portugal, organisers follow detailed mitigation guidelines designed to safeguard naturalresources and support the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Aspecialised technical team ensures that all participating motorcycles meetstrict sound limits, in line with both technical and environmental regulations.
Each event is overseen by a certified Sustainability Steward—trained through the FIM Academy’s rigorous sustainability programme and licenced to enforce international standards. During the 6DAYS® 100th Edition 2026 Portugal edition, a full commission of experts will be on-site to minimise environmental impact and actively promote positive outcomes for the local ecosystem and community.
Our Sustainability Commitments
- The Director of the CID
- The CID Delegate
- The FMP Sustainability Steward
- The FIM Sound Control Officer
As part of its long-standing commitment to reducing the environmental impact of motorcyclesport, the FIM has developed and continuously strengthened its sound control programme across all disciplines.
Through strict technical regulations, advanced measurement protocols, specialised training for Sound Control Officers, and ongoing monitoring initiatives, the FIM seeks to minimise noiseemissions while maintaining sportingintegrity and safeguarding the well-being of local communities, event staff, participants, and wildlife.
FIM motorcycle sound measurement specialists perform technical inspections on all participants’ motorcycles, including decibel measurements, using advancedequipment and measurement methods. The event counts on an experienced SoundControl Officer (SCO) and/or an acoustic engineer, if applicable. Additionally, Exhaust pipes and silencers must fulfil all the requirements concerning soundcontrol (art 1.79 AND 1.31 Enduro ISDE technical rules).
The paddock sound system is also regulated and adequate to minimise impact. Minimise noise from competition, support, and organisation vehicles, with monitoring todetect when allowable limits are exceeded and to prevent harm to human healthand/or local wildlife. The acoustic impact of the event will be assessedby positioning six remote continuous noise monitoring units throughout theentire race period, located around the course. In addition to the noise matrix, there is also continuous monitoring of the atmospheric component during theevent, through a remote monitoring matter, CO, NOX, and SO2.
The event features a curated selection of routes that meet the demands of local authorities while respecting protected places.
Local authorities will be coordinating to restrict access to the protected areas.
Designated spectator areas have been established to enhance safety and protect the sensitive areas of the event.
Safeguarding biodiversity and preserving the integrity of the terrainare central to the environmental strategy of 6DAYS® Portugal 2026. The event is designed to minimise ecological disruption through a series of targeted measures that prioritise sensitive habitats and responsible land use
- Sensitive Area Exclusion: Trails and paths identified as ecologically sensitive areexcluded from timed and competitive stages. This ensures that vulnerable floraand fauna are not disturbed by event activities. Absoluteprohibition of circulation outside the marked route and cutting of vegetation.Restriction of the race to the daytime period.Topographic restoration and useof geotextiles to prevent erosion. Integration with the native re forestation initiative "Adopt a tree".
- Fauna and Flora Protection Plan: A dedicated conservation plan is in place forthe start, finish, and service areas, focusing on minimising human impact and preserving local ecosystems. Detailed information in the Events Managemen tPlan.
- Wastewater Management: All wastewater generated by caravans and paddock operations is collected and treated at a designated facility within the venuegrounds, preventing contamination of natural water sources
- "ProtectedDunes & Living Montado" Campaign: Pedagogical actions explaining the exclusion of dune zones and the importance of the Cork Oak ecosystem and avifauna.
- Soil Restoration Commitment: Any soil altered during the event will be restored to its original condition, ensuring long-term land health and usability
- Spill Prevention Protocols: Staff handling oils, fuels, and other hazardous substances are trained in spill prevention and emergency response to avoid ground contamination.
An Environmental Map is available via the sporting application and at the event secretary’s office, providing clear guidance on protected zones and sustainability protocols.
- Environmental Mats: All participantsmust use FIM-approved environmental mats in the Parc Fermé, control points, andrefuelling areas to prevent soil pollution. The event’s supplementary regulations outline specific conditions. To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the ISDE, the Organising Committee has produced aspecial limited-edition environmental mat featuring the official Centenarybranding. These commemorative mats will be available for participants whorequire an environmental mat and for those wishing to take home a unique and practical souvenir of the event, while also promoting the adoption of goodenvironmental practices throughout the competition.
- Throughthese measures, 6DAYS® Portugal 2026 reinforces its commitment to environmentalresponsibility, ensuring that motorsport and nature can coexist in harmony.

Protecting biodiversity is of utmost importance to the organisation. A plan to protect the fauna and flora of the study area should be implemented, focusing on the places where the start, finish, and supply sectors are located.
Actions
- Preserve the existing flora in areas directly and indirectly affected by the project.
- This even adheres to the four principles of Sport of Nature available in the FIM Environmental Code
- Plant species extraction and cutting are prohibited in direct and indirect areas.
- Mountain trail restoration.
- Sustainable forest management.
- Planting native species.
It is not allowed to burn cleared vegetation, waste, or any other materials that can easily catch fire in an open space.
It is strictly forbidden to collect and/or extract wildlife. Any such activity is prohibited.
Participants are strongly encouraged to wash andthoroughly clean their motorcycles, vehicles, equipment, boots, tyres, andother gear in the designated washing areas before departing the event. This measure aims to prevent the accidental spread of invasive alien species, seeds,soil-borne organisms, and plant pathogens to other regions, therebycontributing to the protection of biodiversity and local ecosystems.Information on designated cleaning areas and recommended procedures will becommunicated through the event’s official channels.
Coastal Zone/ Vasco da Gama Bay Beach (Final Special)
● Natural Values: Sensitive dune vegetation (Ammophila arenaria, Elymus farctus,
Medicagomarina), coastal and migratory birds.
● Absolute Exclusion Directive:
The race route does not use or cross the dune system.
The area isclassified as an Absolute Exclusion Zone (Buffer Zone).
●Protection: Installation of continuous fencing, routing of the public through structured
walkways, and a dedicated permanent cleaning team
The creation and consolidation of Enduro routes play a relevant role in the activemanagement
of the territory:
● Clearing of Weeds: Removal of invasive species that occupy trails, reducing competition
with native flora.
● Fire Prevention: Maintenance ensures passable routes for firefighters and civil
protection, promoting the reduction of combustible loads and the creation of management
strips thatact as natural barriers.
● Spatial Planning: Concentrates circulation on consolidated trails, facilitatinginformal
