At just twenty-one years old, Francisco Leite (Triumph) is representing Portugal on the Junior World Trophy team in this year’s 6DAYS® FIM Enduro of Nations.
Putting on a national jersey for any edition of the 6DAYS® is always an exciting opportunity, but to do it at the hundredth edition of the longest-running off-road event on the FIM calendar on home soil makes it extra special.
For Leite, this is his fourth 6DAYS®, but already his clear favourite.
“It’s really nice to be here,” says Leite. “This is actually my fourth 6DAYS®, but it’s my first time racing at home in Portugal. It feels crazy to see so many people here for this race.
“The support feels incredible. When you wear the national jersey in Portugal, it changes so much.
“People who you don’t even know are cheering for you to do well. This is something I love and I’m thankful to experience.”
With the weight of his nation behind him, and urging him to do the best he can, Leite has been able to embrace that pressure despite his young age.
“With three 6DAYS® behind me already, I feel more confident in what I am doing,” he says. “Having that extra experience is helping me to enjoy this race more.
“For sure, I know we are going to have some tough days, that is to be expected. Sometimes the key will not be full gas, but instead to be patient.
“But I feel like I can give my best for the team. Ultimately, my goal is to aim for a top fifteen result. If I can do that, I will have done everything I can.”
